Every company has a beginning. Ours began with a name that carries a personal meaning, an unexpected career turning point, and a belief that engineering should serve people as much as it serves projects.

Octo Engineering Inc. was founded by Scott Riley Wilson, P.Eng. The name OCTO was inspired by the number eight — a symbol of resilience and new beginnings — and by Scott’s son, who was born on the 8th day of October.

Over time, OCTO also came to represent the four values that guide how we work and how we treat people:

O — Ownership
C — Customer Oriented
T — Transparency
O — Outcome Oriented

These aren't just words behind our name. They are the standards we hold ourselves to, the expectations we set for our team, and the promises we strive to keep with every client.

Our journey: From an Unexpected Beginning to Lasting Roots

Octo Engineering was founded in 2014 by Scott Riley Wilson, P.Eng., as a sole proprietorship, but it wasn't until 2017, following Scott's unexpected layoff, that the business began regular operations in 100 Mile House, BC. What initially felt like a setback became a turning point—an opportunity for Scott to take ownership of his future, pursue his passion for engineering, and build something of his own. What began out of necessity gradually became something much more meaningful: a company built on hard work, integrity, and a commitment to serving the communities around him.

In 2019, the business reached two important milestones. Octo Engineering was officially incorporated on April 1, and a field office opened in Kamloops, extending its services to more communities across the Interior.

In 2020, Scott relocated the company's head office to Williams Lake, a community that felt like home and offered the opportunity to build deeper roots in the Cariboo.

That commitment became even stronger in September 2021, when Octo purchased its Williams Lake headquarters property. It was more than a business investment. It was a decision to establish a lasting presence in the community.

In 2022, Octo made a deliberate choice to refocus its efforts on the Cariboo and surrounding communities. That same year, guided by our belief in Purpose Before Profit, we acquired a second building in Quesnel, BC, further strengthening our commitment to making quality engineering services accessible to the communities we serve.

What began as one person's determination to create his own opportunity has grown into a multidisciplinary engineering firm serving the communities we call home.

Our journey hasn't been about growth at any cost. It has been about building something lasting, earning trust, and staying connected to the people and places that have supported us along the way.
